The aim of the course is to introduce the basic physical and mechanical quantities, the required concepts and methods to study machines and processes. The aim is also to describe the steady-state operation of the machines, the work, the efficiency, the various drives (friction, belt, gear, pulley), the load factor, the losses. In addition, the course aims to introduce the basics of flow processes, the Bernoulli equation, the Venturi tube, the basics of caloric processes, the concepts of heating value, specific consumption and the enthalpy, the cycle of a thermal power plant, the variable speed operation of machines, the basics of coulisse and crank mechanism, piston pumps and internal combustion engines, the indicator diagram, and the terms of the characteristic curve and the operating point.
